I have a MacBook Pro from 2013 and had the problem with being unable to install latest editions of PHP, MySQL, etc. I used OpenCore Legacy Patcher - search for it - and am now on Sonoma 14.2.1. It is very scary but in my case turned out to be a viable alternative to buying new kit. I now have all the latest versions of everything I need.
