The requirements for Joomla! 5.x are MySQL 8.0.13 or higher (or MariaDB 10.4.0 and higher)How do I change the minimum mandatory requirements for Joomla 5? I am on Hostgator and they seem to think it is perfectly normal to run MySQL 5.7.23-23 instead of something newer.
See https://manual.joomla.org/docs/next/get ... uirements/
I recommend to not use such installation tools. Installing Joomla manually gives you more control over the version and the whole process. They have Joomla 5 available for installation with softilicious on their servers but I have a Joomla 4 site that I would rather update than completely rebuild.
I would not upgrade a Joomla 4 website to Joomla 5 on a live server.
Instead I would create a backup (using Akeeba Backup),
install it at a local web environment (e.g. XAMP),
do the upgrade there,
create a backup,
restore that backup on the current server in a /new/ folder so that I see if it works,
and only when it works, move the old site to an /old/ folder (and delete it later) and the /new/ contents to the website root.
