Welcome to the Joomla forum!
Javascript errors can indicate a conflict between different implementations of third party extensions or javascript libraries. What was the last maintenance, update or installation action taken before this issue started?
Please post the results from the Forum Post Assistant (FPA) by following the instructions at https://forumpostassistant.github.io/docs/ so that our volunteer Joomla experts can review the configuration and make suggestions.
The latest version of Joomla 4.x is version 4.4.9. As you saw from the Joomla message, PHP 8.1 is the recommended version. However, some older third party extensions may not work in PHP 8.1. Your host should be able to offer PHP 8.0 and above as options for your to select from the cPanel or equivalent page provided by the host.
Check from the Console of the Developer Tools (F12) in the browser if the admin page has javascript errors. They are highlighted in red and they stop the Save button from working. Copy and paste those errors into your reply.Whenever I attempt to save any updates, the changes are not being applied. There is no error message, but it seems like the system is not responding to the save action.
