I don't think you'll find anyone on the forum that doesn't recommend Akeeba.

How do you back up your site without Akeeba? Don't rely on your host for making backups.

The process is simple. Export the database from MySQL using your web host database tool e.g. phpMyAdmin. Import into MariaDB using phpMYAdmin. MariaDB is a fork of MySQL; there shouldn't be any issues.

But if you want a trouble-free migration, use Akeeba Backup and Akeeba Kickstart.
